Meet Jonathan
Hello, I'm Jonathan Yu, I’ve been practicing kendo since the age of 10. My dad introduced me to the sport in the hopes that it would instill discipline and structure in my life. To be honest, I didn’t like kendo at first. The rules were tricky, and I found it hard to wrap my head around the martial art's concepts. It required physicality and patience at the same time which wasn't my strong suit. In addition, the most difficult aspect of the sport was wearing the Ki and Hakama (uniform) and even more difficult than that was wearing the Men (helmet). I remember my mom and dad scolding me and making me practice wearing the uniform at home repeatedly, and slowly I got better and better.
After about 6 months of practicing kendo, I participated in my first tournament and to my surprise, I won first place, and my Kendo journey began!
Our Mission
Kendo Journey is committed to supporting the growth of Kendo in college communities across the United States. We understand that many college Kendo teams struggle with financial support, which can limit their ability to participate in tournaments and access the necessary training equipment.
To help support college Kendo teams, Kendo Journey plans to use the profits generated from merchandise sales to provide financial assistance to these teams. This includes sponsoring tournaments, providing training equipment, and covering travel expenses for teams to attend competitions.
Through our efforts, Kendo Journey aims to create a supportive and inclusive environment for Kendo athletes, regardless of their financial background. By giving back to the Kendo community, we hope to inspire and encourage the next generation of Kendo athletes to pursue their passion for the sport, both on and off the mat.
